Figaro Digital Autumn 2015 Event Preview

We look forward to a season of seminars, summits and conferences focusing on the issues shaping digital marketing in 2015

Q: What do Sport England’s #ThisGirlCan campaign, Museum of London’s work with Tinie Tempah, Urban Fruit’s dried apricots and Roald Dahl’s BFG have in common?

A: Each has featured at one of the 22 seminars, summits and conferences Figaro Digital have hosted so far this year. (The BFG, alas, couldn’t join us in person.)

Now we’re gearing up for what promises to be a brilliant autumn programme of events. Between now and the end of the year we’ll be hosting a range of seminars, summits and industry-specific roundtables, as well as our 26 November Digital Marketing Conference.

So what’s on the agenda? If you’ve been to any of our Thursday afternoon seminar sessions at the Hospital Club in Covent Garden, you’ll know what to expect: a friendly, informative forum where brands and agencies present to an audience of marketers drawn exclusively from brands, followed by networking and drinks. Here’s what we’ve got coming up.

Social Media Seminar: 10 September 2015, Hospital Club
Social media is digital marketing’s mothership: everything comes back to it. It’s interactivity, after all, that distinguishes digital marketing from traditional advertising. But making sense of new platforms and understanding what works takes, well, work. At this session we’ll be hearing from Great British Chefs about forging meaningful partnerships grounded in quality content. Red Bee will explain why the key to successful social video lies in storytelling. We’ll be looking at some of the most significant (and most overlooked) social media developments of the year so far. And since no marketing event is complete without a spot of statistical analysis, Richard Summers at Crowdcat will join the dots between big data, psychology, social media and the weather.

Digital Travel, Leisure & Entertainment Seminar: 16 September 2015, Hospital Club
This is the third of our industry-specific events. Six 10-minute presentations will be followed by a series of roundtable sessions led by speakers. Delegates will have the opportunity to quiz Adobe, Zeta Interactive, Liberty Marketing, the OTHER media and Agentivity. We’re also pleased to be joined by Peter Ward, the award-winning founder of WAYN.com (Where Are You Now), the largest social travel network in the world. He’ll discuss the lessons learned during 10 years at the frontline of social media marketing.

Mobile Strategy Seminar: 17 September 2015, Hospital Club
Forget mobile-friendly. It’s now mobile-first. And frequently mobile-only. Arguably, no device of the last 50 years has had a bigger impact on our daily lives than the smartphone, which this year reached the ripe old age of eight. At this session we’ll be examining how businesses are adapting to the mobile challenge. Roman Tagoe, Head of Digital Content at Time Out, will explain how the magazine has reconfigured itself for the changing publishing landscape. And award-winning entrepreneur Ed Relf will discuss some of the new opportunities mobile tech provides. His current venture Laundrapp is an on-demand laundry and dry cleaning app. “Our ambition is to disrupt an entire industry ripe for smart technology and innovation,” says Ed.

Ecommerce Seminar: 24 September 2015, Hospital Club
At this session we’ll be getting down to the nuts and bolts of digital marketing: making sales online. And in order to make sales you first need to ensure consumers can find you. Gareth Morgan at Liberty Marketing will discuss current issues in SEO and offer some easy-to-implement advice for brands who need to raise their profile online. Ewan Darby, General Manager EMEA at Cake, will discuss the importance of centralised real-time insights for evaluating customer acquisition costs. And Steve Shaw, Digital Director at Branded3, will be on hand to share his expertise, which includes the creation of an ecommerce site for cosmetics brand Illamasqua and a comprehensive CRM application for Interflora. Find out how to adapt to consumers’ expectations of a personalised service, what the growth in mobile buying means and how to make sense of all that lovely data.

Email Marketing & CRM Seminar: 1 October 2015, Hospital Club
Good old email: the original outbound marketing channel, and still the best. Sexier sectors may get the press, but email generates more positive ROI ratings than any other channel. At this session we’ll be joined by Alchemy Worx founder Dela Quist, one of the most passionate (and occasionally contrarian) speakers in the sector. Skip Fidura, Client Services Director at dotmailer, has been a strong advocate for humanising email campaigns, using data to build loyalty and implementing more effective personalisation. Jenna Tiffany has written extensively for Figaro Digital (here and here, in fact). Find out how to make the most of context, the value of re-engagement and the issues likely to shape email in the future.

Digital Marketing Conference: 26 November 2015
Last, but by no means least, we’re currently assembling the agenda for our November Conference. Already confirmed are Channel 4, Firefox OS, Paddy Power and Reed.co.uk. Sports England will talk us through their phenomenally successful #ThisGirlCan campaign, Time Out will discuss their digital transformation and publishers of personalised kids’ books Lost My Name will explain how new opportunities are revitalising traditional industries. From specific case studies to cutting edge analysis, we’ll be examining the changing relationship between brands and  consumers, as well as marketing’s role in a broader business context.
